Fiabilis brings experts together in Barcelona to analyze the evolution of social security contributions in Spain

On March 25, Fiabilis held a gathering in Barcelona, at Foment del Treball Nacional, on social security contributions and their evolution in recent years. It featured the participation of experts in the field such as Antonio Benavides, former Labor Inspector of Barcelona; Marta Antón, a lawyer specializing in labor relations; and Guillaume Vignancour, managing partner of Fiabilis Consulting Group.

During the gathering, several of the questions currently at the center of the debate on contributions were analyzed.

One of the topics was the impact of remote work on contributions, especially with regard to the allowances paid to workers. The lack of detailed regulation places this aspect in territory where interpretation takes on particular relevance as to whether or not it should be included in the contribution base.

The classification of remote-working staff for the purposes of contributions for workplace accidents and occupational illnesses was also discussed, raising the question of whether it is defensible to apply occupation code A in these cases — a point on which technical judgment and administrative interpretation do not always coincide.

Another block dealt with the treatment of non-periodic pay items, where the importance of accrual as a determining factor in their correct allocation was highlighted, as well as the need to analyze each item individually.

Finally, the differences between CRA files and contribution bases were addressed. In this regard, the importance of understanding the origin of these differences and of having solid criteria to justify the treatment applied was emphasized.

All of this in a context in which regulatory developments and administrative practice continue to advance, reinforcing the need for a clear, up-to-date view for decision-making.
